I've got to read the rest!

I just finished the book titled "A Man Named Dave" by David Pelzer. Dave is the main character. As he got older his mom got mean and stern and she became abusive. Despite his sacrifices as a child he grew up to be a successful man. Now he writes books about his life and how you shouldn't turn in to what his mom was.

Title of Book: Red Dragon Codex Author: R.D. Henham Genre: Fantasy Fiction Date: Week of 10/6/08 Began: Page 1 End: Page 244
Reading Response:
I read Red Dragon Codex by R.D. Henham. The author evokes images by using descriptive words, metaphors, and similes. An example of the language he uses is “The dragon had legs like tree trunks.” Another example is, “Mudd squirmed into the wheelhouse where the mill’s crank and gears stood motionless.” The image would have been different if the author had said that the gears were rotating.
I think the setting of this story is very important, because if the setting was not descriptive, in your mind it would never “paint a picture”. Here is an example of a good setting, “…as she watched the line of men and wagons make its way on the road far below. Digging her claws into the high, rocky ledge...” Now here is an example of a bad setting: “…as she watched the people on the road. Putting her claws in the ledge…” Which one would you want as your setting?
Teacher’s Choice:
The story is told through Mudd’s point of view. Mudd is the main character and also the leader of the group of rescuers. If the story were told from the Red Dragon’s point of view, it would be very different because Red Dragon is the bad guy. Instead of the plot being a rescue mission, it would be a mission to take revenge on a silver dragon.
Title: Are you there God? It's me Margaret. Author: Judy Blume Genre:Realistic Fiction Date: November 2nd, 2008 I just read this fantastic book, I was so sad when it ended. It was about a girl named Margaret, who just moved to a new state. She joins a clib all about puberty. She is no religion, so she dosn't know which church center to join, and she feels scared about her new town. My feelings about this text are great! I can totally relate to Margaret.I felt that way when I switched dance studios. I went from knowing everyone's phone numbers, to knowing not a single name at the whole studio .It was pretty scary. The authors message is that people should be able to make their own decions. I know this because once Margaret could make her own decions, her life was way happier than before.
“True Power comes from focusing on what we can give, not just on what we can take.
Of the gifts that we can give, the greatest is to see beauty in each other - in essence, to Give beauty to each other. When we give the beauty, we prepare our hearts to receive it back.
