Register for Blog Site

Parents I will go further into the purpose of the blog site during open house. However, I encourage you and the students to register for the blog as it will become a major form of communication during our technology age. I am new to this as are some of you and I set the blog up relatively easy and registering is just as easy. I look forward to a great literacy year with each of you. I will also be posting our back to school letter to get a feel for how many of you are logging on and using the site. Have a great weekend.

This is an interesting way to try to get information out. I hope it catches on.

Take care.

I do to let me know what you think. It seems as though this is the way to have an open communication with students and parents. we will mainly use it as a nice communication to for parents. In addition the students and I will host some Literacy discussions. Feel free to join in.

I used my gmail account to register, and it was pretty easy. However, the kids, and some parents, may not have gmail accounts to use and parents may not want to create another email for the kids.

Jonathan (aka JT) asked me to create a login for him and show him how to use the site. I'll do that this weekend so I can see what hurdles that others may encounter. I'll post a brief "how-to" for those that may need assistance.

Thanks Scott,
I am going to address that at the open house. I told the students for now they may use their parents accounts to make sure they are using the internet properly and for its intended use. Thanks so much for the how to. I like the JT I may have to adopt that one in the classroom have a great weekend.

Here are the steps that I have gone thru to get this working for our family. Mrs. Ligon asked that I post this as a "how-to" for everyone.

The site is a little misleading, but it is pretty simple to do.

From the blog click "Create Blog" in the upper right hand corner. This will open a page to create a google account. Fill out the information on this page and hit continue.

The next step asks you to name your blog, but since you don't want to create a blog you can stop here.

Now go back to the blog and you should be logged in. Click sign-in if you're not automatically logged in.

Once you are connected I recommend visiting the Dashboard (upper right corner) and editing the profile. Personally, I like to insure there is no personal information and I like to change the display name for my child.

Dashboard link - http://www.blogger.com/home

When I set this up for other users I had to go to their email and click a link from google to activate the account. However, I did not have to do this for my wife.

I hope this helps. You can email me via the class contact list if you have any problems and I'll try to help.

Scott

Jonathan goes by either JT or Jonathan but in some circumstances prefers JT. Feel free to address him using either.
